The Washington, Missouri Public Library was host to Mary Hoerstkamp and around 20 area children who took part in a tea party. The event was held on Saturday, March 29th. Mrs. Hoerstkamp, originally from England, moved to the Washington, Missouri area in the late 1940's after marrying a World War II soldier. Mrs. Hoerstkamp spoke to the children about England and read a book. The children participated in activities including a craft, learning the game of "Snip Snap Snorem", and practicing etiquette while enjoying tea, cookies and trifle. The event was part of the World View series at the library which and was funded by the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation. |  |  | |

 Kevin Threlkeld, State Representative (R), 109th District will be speaking in Washington, Missouri at a Washington Federation of Republican Women-hosted forum on Wednesday, April 2, at 6pm. The event will be held at Chico's Cantina Mexican Restaurant. During the presentation, Representative Threlkeld will explain charter government as well as the benefits and drawbacks of such a government. Kevin Threlkeld, State Representative (R), 109th District, will explain charter government; the benefits and drawbacks should the electorate pass the ballot issue to form a 14-member charter-drafting commission this April. Amtrak is a seemingly underutilized asset in Washington, Missouri. Amtrak stops in Washington four times daily -- twice headed east and twice headed west. Fares vary based on destination -- a round trip ticket between Washington and St. Louis, Missouri is just $22 as of 03/25/08. The train schedule is available on Amtrak's website. The train station also houses the Washington, Missouri Visitor's Center and the Mid-Missouri Fine Arts Gallery. A winter photo of the train station can be seen in this previous article on WashMo.com.
