Washington River Festival and Missouri River Cleanup Scheduled for June 14th PDF Print E-mail

The Washington River Festival and Missouri River Cleanup will be held on Saturday, June 14th at the riverfront park in Washington, Missouri.  The Washington River Festival will feature educational exhibits, music, kid's activities, food, a World Bird Sanctuary presentation and more.
 
Exhibitors will be set up in the Pavilion from 11:00am to 4:00pm.  Exhibitors include:
Washington Historical Society
Information and exhibits on the Missouri River Bridge in Washington and interesting stories of the river in our community.

The Greenway Network
Our St. Charles neighbors along the Missouri River will participate in a variety of ways:  They will do water quality sampling, provide a sun print activity for children and also share information on macroinvertebrates.

Leftovers, etc.
Will provide a number of fun, educational projects to create from reusable items.  Leftovers, Etc. is a resource and learning center for teachers, Scout leaders and the general public located in St. Charles, MO.  The group focuses on teaching children and adults how to reduce, reuse and recycle. 

Saint Louis/Midwest Turtle & Tortoise Society
Rescues, rehabilitates and releases sick and injured turtles and re-educates humans.  They will bring information about turtles and some live animals for you to see.

Washington Public Library
Bugs!  Tents!  River stuff!  Library staff will share books about nature for people of all ages in a fun and creative way.

Hillermann’s Nursery & Florist
Visit the Hillermann Nursery booth to talk Native with the native plant buyer at Hillermann's. She will also have native plants available for sale. Grow Native! They are not just weeds in the field, they're our heritage.

The Open Space Council
Come see snippets of The Open Space Council's new film on the Meramec River and hear tunes from a CD of river songs they have produced.  This organization works to conserve and sustain land, water and other natural resources through many projects including Operation Clean Stream and Operation Wild Lands.

U.S. Geological Survey
Did you know that Asian carp are invading our rivers and that the Pallid Sturgeon fish is endangered?  Find out why this is important to us from The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).  This organization provides scientific information needed to rehabilitate the Missouri River ecosystem. 

Missouri Naturalists Program
Is sponsored by the MO Department of Conservation and the University of Missouri Extension.  Its mission is to engage Missourians in the stewardship of our state's natural resources through science-based education and community service.

Missouri Water Patrol
Stay safe on the river!  Information on water safety.

Area High School Students
River painting collage, face painting and other activities.

Botanical Walk with Bill Davit
Enjoy a walk with a local botanical expert and learn about the great variety of plants growing along our River Front Trail.

Shaw Nature Reserve
Experience the sights, sounds, and textures of nature with staff and volunteers from Shaw Nature Reserve.   Learn more about the 2400 acre oasis of natural beauty located right here in Franklin County! 
The Missouri River Clean-up is a "unique opportunity to work together with your community to get rid of the trash along the Missouri River."  The clean-up will begin at 9am at the Washington, Missouri Riverfront Park Boat Ramp.  Boats will ferry volunteers to river banks and islands to pick up trash that has washed on shore.  Volunteers may also help pick up trash along the riverfront and park.
