AT&T Mobility received approval on Monday from the City Council for its special use permit to erect a new cell tower in Washington, Missouri. The tower, which will be 104 feet in height, will be located just behind Orscheln Farm and Home in the Washington Corners plaza. In the previous City Council meeting on July 21st, a public hearing was held to receive input from the community. There was no opposition expressed at the public hearing, nor was there opposition against the tower at Monday's meeting. Prior to the 7-0 approval in favor of the ordinance, Councilman Rhodes requested that explicit wording be included that specified there would be no flag or lights used on the new tower. There had been concern by area residents over the noise that a flag on the tower might create, and without a flag, there was no need for spotlights to illuminate it. As a result, the tower will be a plain monopole design with no flag or special lighting. The public hearing on the proposed tower was discussed in a previous WashMo.com article here: Proposed Cellular Tower Discussed at Public Hearing
