Let the Law Catch Up With Us! |

Ok, I said it. Mea Culpa. On July the 6th, 2009, myself and 5 other councilpersons passed and ordinance controlling the sell of pseudoephedrine products and requiring a prescription for such purchases. During discussion, someone asked if we had the authority to pass such and ordinance and I commented that if it isn’t then the law will have to catch up with us. Immediately, at least one person commented we had over-stepped our bounds and that I had been “arrogant” in so doing (and stating). What the reader could not have known was the power of the 30 minute presentation that we had just heard from law enforcement and the medical profession. What you could not have been aware of was the complete failure by our state and federal officials to help communities such, as ours, with an exploding meth epidemic. You would have heard how powerful pharmaceutical lobbyist have, for 3 decades, gotten into the pockets of powerful politicians and obscured their better judgment. Had you been at the meeting, you would have seen how the addiction cycle of meth ruins families, and harms and kills innocent children. The cost alone to our communities is enormous. And what does our state and federal leaders do? Nothing. The drug you take for a snifflely nose, when given restrictive access, reduces the number of home-grown meth labs, substantially. Our ordinance, is not a panacea for success – we know that. What we hope and pray that it will do, though, is get the attention of those at the state and federal level, and actually do something about it. The ACLU has poked their nose into this issue because they are afraid that - heaven forbid - states be allowed self determination and control over the things that affect our lives. They could care less about the death and destruction caused by meth, just as they could care less about the families of grieving soldiers in Maplewood, Missouri. (See STLtoday and “ACLU sues to block Maplewood funeral protest ban”) Most Americans know what parasitic vermin comprise the ACLU. And why don’t they want us to have self determination? Well it seems it comes down to birth control. They are afraid we unenlightened red-neck Christians may go and out law birth control pills. My concern, unlike the ACLU, is for the welfare of our citizens – particularly defenseless children. May I say that I am honored to be the target of an ACLU lackey. I have framed and hung my notice. It is a badge of honor. If protecting people is arrogant, then I am guilty. |
