Last Tuesday night, our city council passed (7-0) funding to get the ball rolling on replacing our bridge. The bridge committee has put a heck of a lot of work into this project and I am honored to see the first steps being taken. Thanks to the public for your support and the bridge committee. WASHINGTON > City seeks federal help for bridge design ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH The City of Washington is seeking up to $1.5 million in federal funding for the preliminary design of a new four-lane Missouri River bridge. City Council members Tuesday gave Mayor Dick Stratman the nod to request the funds. They also approved a cost-sharing agreement between the city and the Missouri Department of Transportation for the design. Stratman's letter says the city will fund $500,000. The existing two-lane bridge went into service in 1933 and has a maximum lifespan of 100 years, according to City Councilman Guy Midkiff. Upgrades were recently made to the bridge, but rehabbing is expected again in 2017. If work begins on the new bridge in 2015, it's estimated motorists could be using it by 2017. The bridge links Washington, via Highway 47, with Warren County to the north. |
