“All Streets – not just Main Street," just to make sure there is no confusion, is a symbolic statement that clearly states my desire to be viewed as a mayor that will represent all people – not some special interest. “Main Street” is not Main street, Washington. I could have used Central street, and meant the same thing. I suspect some will say I was zeroing in on a specific person or business which would not be accurate. My record on council clearly supports my commitment to downtown Washington and have never targeted or spoke against Main Street, Washington. We have made substantial investment in Main Street, Washington, from the Farmers Market to joint use parking provisions at the new SFB parking lot, not to mention the work the Chamber of Commerce and Banks do for our city. Additionally, our downtown revitalization efforts, were helped considerably in 2006 when Governor Blunt designated Washington as a DREAM community. Guy Midkiff |
