Add another city (Make it 8) to the list of communities following the example set by Washington, Mo. regarding anti-meth legislation. Now that the waters have been tested by 6 intrepid city council men and women, from Washington, Mo., expect to soon see state level politicians follow Washington's lead. 02.19.2010 2:35 pm Prescriptions bill in St. Louis is aimed at fighting meth By Christine Byers A bill proposed today by Bevo Mill Alderman Stephen Gregali would require prescriptions to buy pseudoephedrine products in the city, an effort to combat methamphetamine labs. “Several aldermen wish to be co-sponsor it, so it will have some legs,” Gregali said. “How can you be against it?” Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that doubles as methamphetamine’s main ingredient. Gregali said requiring prescriptions for the products was just as important as enacting a smoking ban but that he would like to see both done at the state level. “We’ll have to do the work for them until it gets done at the state level,” he said. If it passes, St. Louis would become the eighth local government to pass a prescription law. Eureka was the most recent to do so this week. The committee’s vote then will go before the full Board of Alderman. Gregali said the bill could be voted on by the council as soon as March 12. http://electmidkiff.blogspot.com/ |
