"A Knight to Remember" Holds to be True

The annual SFBRHS Dinner Auction was held on Feb. 13, and what a "Knight to Remember" it was.

"It was simply a wonderful Borgia-filled evening," said Director of Advancement Harriet Sallaberry.

This year's fundraiser brought in approximately $140,000, and every penny is going toward student financial aid.

"One hundred percent of the money raised goes to financial assistance for Borgia students," said Sallaberry. "However, even if you don't receive financial aid, this benefits all students by keeping the tuition low."

The auction included a variety of items, from movie-lover baskets to week-long stays in Hilton Head, S.C.

"The items that we had for auction were fun, useful and desirable among the crowd," said Moira Vossbrink, Director of Marketing and Recruitment.

The "Sinner's Dinner," a dinner for eight provided by Fr. Mike Boehm, Msgr. Mike Turek and Fr. Rick Stoltz, was a crowd favorite. After many bids, the auction went for $3,100.

Homeroom baskets were successful items as well.  Each homeroom collected money and items to create a basket of a chosen theme.  The "Fine Wines" basket, put together by Frau Schmitt's homeroom, was the winning homeroom basket, selling for $305.  Mr. Unnerstall's homeroom came in second, with their "Stock the Bar" basket selling for $250.

"We were very thankful for all of the homerooms and the homeroom parents for putting together the baskets," said Sallaberry. "They all turned out beautiful."

The "Borgia-filled evening" involved a very spirited crowd. Many of the guests even sported their old prom dresses and uniforms.

"The theme was phenomenal," said President George Wingburmuehle. "It was interesting to see everyone take pride in their Borgia history, and I was surprised that a lot of the men could still fit in their letterman's jackets."

The Distinguished Knight Award was another highlight of the evening. This year's honor went to the Les Eckelkamp family. The criteria for the award is lifelong involvement at Borgia, exceptional generosity in time, talent and treasure, exemplary service and commitment, evidence of living a faith-filled life and a vision for the future of SFBRHS.

"There is no doubt that the Les Eckelkamp family fits the criteria perfectly," said Sallaberry. "They are very deserving of the award."

With the evening being such a success, Wingbermuehle believes that "because of the generosity of the Borgia community, we will for sure have plenty of financial aid for next year." He, as well as everyone else involved, looks forward to the auction for years to come.
