  Borgia Boys Basketball Makes History

Last Friday, in the Ray DeGreeff Memorial Gym on among the roar of cheers and squeaking tennis shoes, a record was made. Having to live up to the expectations of last year's State winning team, the Knights raised the bar to a whole new level.

The Knights demolished all of their opponents through out the season, and on Feb. 19 there was only one team left to beat. The record breaking game was against Miller Career Academy; a team to which the Knights lost in the previous season. The Miller Career Academy Phoenixes weren't so successful in 2010. The Knights were victorious 78, to 56. For the first time in St. Francis Borgia Regional High School boy's basketball history, a team had an undefeated regular game season.

"A lot of other teams were deserving of this. Coach just made sure that we didn't lose concentration," said Sam Tochtrop, varsity athlete. "We tried to think about the next game and not so much about the long run."

Senior Nathan Scheer, who signed with Missouri State, averages 22.8 points per game. In the game against Miller he racked up 31 points.

"Nathan Scheer is a big asset to the team. He is a very strong player and I enjoy cheering for him and his teammates," said Jessica Overschimdt, varsity cheerleader.

Tyler Ressel was running right behind Scheer with 15 points. Also, Bryce Dolan and Drew Kimminau ended up with 9 points each.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Borgia is the No. 1 team in small-school rankings. Not only is this because of the hard work and dedication of the players and coaches, but some would say that a lot is owed to the Knight's loyal fans.

"Borgia fans are second to none in their ability to will a team to victory. We will and always are there for the Borgia Knights," said Peter Birk, senior. "We are pushing them with the air in our lungs towards the first undefeated season."

If the undefeated Knights move on to Districts, Sectionals and Quarterfinals then finally they will make it to the State Championship game March 11-13 in Columbia. Just as the Soothsayer warned Caesar of the Ides of March, all the surrounding teams should be warned of the Borgia Knights. They aren't backing down with out a fight.
