Crews began immediately working to clean up derailed cars and repair the line that was damaged as a result of Tuesday morning's Union Pacific derailment west of Washington, Missouri. Mark Davis, company spokesman indicated the count of derailed coal cars had increased to 37. As of 4:00pm on Tuesday -- only 10 hours after the accident -- Davis noted that all the cars had been removed from the trackbed. The photo to the right shows Union Pacific engines pulling new track and other supplies towards the derailment area. Davis also said crews will work through the night to replace about 1000 feet of track damaged as the result of the derailment. The line is expected to reopen to train traffic at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 13. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Amtrak transportation continued via charter bus.
